If you are interested in applying for a job posting at Statistics Canada, please note:

• Your experience will be portable for your resume;
• Your tenure may not; ie, a Census job is not an automatic route to work for the government, but IT HELPS. Always refer to the contract or terms in the applicable Collective Agreement;
• These postings are short-lived; HR people would be absolutely swamped if they kept these postings open longer than they do. Their target might be several hundred applications per post, but could reach much more. Don't let this deter you; if you qualify, you qualify period. Next step, please.
• If you are Aboriginal, self-declaration may help you. "Set-asides" or quotas are not the norm in most federal departments including StatCan, but there are soft targets for diversity and employment equity.
• The Census roll-out is sequential and intuitive to follow. First the plan; then implementation including: securing locations, installing infrastructure and operational fit-up and then production/processing and tear-down (Everything goes 'in-house/HQ' from there.) The Census includes an apex of activity around the mid-point on Census Day itself and includes millions of personal and electronic interactions across the country.
